I was walking down Fifth Avenue today, and I found a wallet. I was going to keep it, rather than return it, but I thought: Well, if I lost $150, how would I feel? And I realized I would want to be taught a lesson.

This past week I was listening again to Arcade Fire's CD Neon Bible, and was stunned all over again at the beauty of the music and the truthfulness of the lyrics. The grace of art, so precious in so broken a world, sometimes seems too much to bear.
